WE’RE BACK! Welcome back to Pop Lobster and our new series: 25 for 25.
If you’re new here, we’re two brothers who spend way too much time arguing about music, and we decided to make it productive for once. So here it is: our completely biased, deeply personal, and likely probably very controversial list of the 25 most meaningful albums of this century (so far).
Not the “greatest.” Not the “most influential.” Just the ones that stuck with us. Albums that hit at the right time, shaped how we hear music and planted this interest for the music and entertainment industry that we continue to foster today.
Why now?
Because it’s 2025, and 25 felt like a good number. That’s it. No deeper meaning.
(Okay, fine — we’re also stealing a little inspiration from Sean and Amanda over at The Big Picture who are doing the same thing for movies. Respect.)
What to expect:
Every Friday, we’ll post a new entry in the countdown.
We’ll break down what makes the album tick — songs, production, context — and share why it mattered to us. (and maybe some cool graphs along the way)
We’re not music critics. We just care a lot and enjoy arguing about music.
Some ground rules:
Albums had to drop after the year 2000 — that was the one rule. But let’s be honest: we were teenagers in the 2010s, so yeah… we’re gonna be biased. That decade hit different. If you’re hoping for some deep-cut love for early 2000s indie rock, apologies in advance!
No two albums by the same artist. (Painful but fair, we can’t have Taylor, Kendrick, and Beyonce on the list 15 times)
We’re not trying to be objective — if it meant something to us, it’s on the list. Some changed our lives, some just hit at the right time. That’s it.
If you’re into music that makes you feel stuff (even if you can’t explain it), this is for you. First post goes live Friday, May 9. See you there.
