Lobsessed: January 2024
We’re launching a new segment for 2024 - Lobsessed! Outside of our weekly album reviews, there is so much more we listen to that we want to talk about, so every month we’re going to post a recap of all the songs, albums, artists we’ve been into the past month.

January had a few obsessions for me, recently I’ve been really into the latest Jeremy Zucker EP. I really like his approach to songwriting, it’s a little more bedroom poppy for my taste but there are some absolute earworms on this thing.
It is my belief that Sherwyn is one of the best indie artists I’ve stumbled across. If he doesn’t have a good 2024. I’ll riot. This melody haunts me, controls me, my every second is just this song. Really hope the best for him. super talented, also check out Goddess Regin & Good Morning by him<3
I really wanted to find some niche indie artists that I could try to gatekeep for 2024, here is some of what I’ve come up with.
Fortunately, I think krooked kings will be tough to gatekeep. They are reaching their demographic well and continuously making good music on the way to becoming a sustainable touring act.
This song is a banger, never heard anything like it. really cool drums and super fun production, shoutout to greek.
I know Between Friends is getting pushed like crazy right now in playlist placements and such so I’m not surprised if they get a cool TikTok hit or something soon but I really enjoy this tune and their dynamic as a duo.
I’ve revisited Gracie Abrams this month. again. She’s got me in a cycle where I forget that I enjoy her music and need to remind myself about her talent. The album also gives me winter vibes too so that helps.

For me, 2024 is going to be the year I make myself listen to old music. I’m starting out easy with 90’s soft rock. I’m really interested in that era of time right now. My favorite album of 2023, GUTS from Olivia Rodrigo feels widely inspired by some of that sound from Sixpence None The Richer, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Alanis Morrissette. So I’ve been really diving into that recently. A couple of my favorites below:
I know we are all remembering to let it linger, but lets show some love to this one too. Been listening to this one on repeat since I watched You’ve Got Mail a few weeks ago and it just fit so well.
I had this song on the other day and my dad was telling me how this song was big around the time I was born and he really liked it because it’s written from the POV of Stapp found out he was going to be a father so they we’re parallel pathing fatherhood there. Crazy.
In January I also revisited a couple songs from Shawn Mendes last album Wonder. The project was pretty much over once it dropped, but I really feel like it contains some of his best work.
His collaboration with Bieber on Monster is lovely coming from both of them and the production is haunting and really cool, surprised it wasn’t huge.
Teach Me How To Love is the hit that got away and feels plucked from the JT playbook.
While we’re on the topic of JT here - I’ve been really enjoying Justin Timberlake’s new single, Selfish as well as revisiting his magnum opus, The 20/20 Experience.
The song is very low-key, which is a surprising marketing decision for JT’s newest album dropping mid-March. I think the subtleness of the song works in it’s favor. It’s not in your face so it’s easy to keep replaying. Catchy enough to be an earworm but not annoying enough to burn on you quickly. Excited to see
I understand everyone and their mother knows this song and it’s nothing groundbreaking here to say it’s a good song but we don’t talk about this song enough. It’s amazing. This is JT’s All Too Well if he ever had one.
Could highlight MANY songs of this record but also really digging this opening track, Pusher Love Girl. Super bold of JT to drop an album where 3/4 of the album contains 5 minute+ tracks and still hold peoples attention, people just don’t do it like that anymore.
